This was held at White City after IItaly pulled out of hosting the Olympic Games due to the eruption of Vesuvius. It is interesting to see the differences and similaities between the Games. There was an Opening Ceremony but no Olympic Torch. Britain won 146 Medals in total awarded at one group ceremony. We would love to know if you are ready for the 2012 Olympic Games and which events you are looking forward to,
The 2012 Olympic Games is almost here and it was over 100 years ago in 1908 that Britains first Olympic Games took place. These Games were supposed to be held in Italy but due to the eruption of Vesuvius they had to pull out. Britain then only had ten months to organize the Event which was held at White City. There have been many changes in the last 100 years but some things including the Rain have stayed the same. The first year to have an Opening Ceremony was 1908 but there was no Olympic Torch which started taking place in 1928. Olympic Events in 1908 included Bicycle Polo and Tug Of War and the biggest event was the Marathon which went from Windsor Castle to Shepherds Bush. Diving was added to the events this year as they had the first purpose built swimmimg pool. Britain won 56 Gold Medals and 146 Medals in total. All medals were awarded in one day in a Group Ceremony .
Are you all ready and geared up for the 2012 Olympics? Which events are you particularly looking forward to?
