Synopsis:

With the start of Oktoberfest this weekend we have been looking at some of the history of how Oktoberfest began and how it is celebrated now. This German Beer Festival takes place in Munich and Bavaria as well as other parts of the world, where typical German Costume is worn and tents and venues have German Themed Decorations such as Flags, Balloons and Bunting. Please let us know how you are celebrating Oktoberfest this year.

Oktoberfest, the German Beer Festival starts this weekend and continues until October 6th. There are celebrations in Munich and Bavaria as well as worldwide where waiters, waitresses and attendees dress in typical Dirndl and Lederhosen Outfits. Okroberfest began in October 1810 with the wedding of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese. Five days later there was a public horse race allowing everyone to take part in the celebrations and the festival then took place again at the same time the following year.  Now more than 6 million people attend various Festivities which include fair rides, singing and dancing in Decorated tents and venues.

Will you be celebrating Oktoberfest? Please let us know which events you are going to.
