Bastille Day Celebrations

It will be soon be time to fly the French Flag as Bastille Day is on 14^th July. This is the French National Day and post offices, banks and most businesses will be closed on this day.

This commemorates the Storming of The Bastille to release political prisoners on 14^th July 1789 and the beginning of the French Revolution. Bastille was a prison and the storming was a sign of liberty and the fight against oppression. The Eiffel Tower and the Tricolore Flag are important symbols of Bastille Day. The Flag symbolizes liberty, equality and fraternity. Bastille Day celebrates French culture and there is a Military Parade in Paris. There are also communal meals and picnics held as well as dances, parties and fireworks.
